NHL Program Celebrates Teachers, Awards Classroom Funds

The NHL, NHLPA and EverFi announced the winner and finalists of the Future Goals Most Valuable Teacher program, which celebrated 36 teachers across North America. The initiative, with presenting sponsorship from SAP, began in January before public voting earlier this month narrowed the field to three finalists: Bruins fan Joan Kilban (overall winner), Penguins fan Megan Campedel and Flyers fan Jennifer Armstrong. Over the last week, those three were surprised with a donation for STEM initiatives and a special virtual hangout with an NHL player.

The teachers will receive part of a $50,000 donation for new tech for their classrooms -- $30,000 to the winner and $10,000 for each finalist -- courtesy of SAP. The virtual events paired Bruins C Charlie Coyle with Kilban, Penguins RW Bryan Rust with Campedel and Flyers LW James van Riemsdyk with Armstrong.
