Fox' Darrell Waltrip Talks Retirement In On-Air Segment

Fox’ Darrell Waltrip addressed his impending retirement prior to yesterday’s Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Food City 500, saying it was an “incredibly emotional weekend for me.” The NASCAR HOFer officially announced he is leaving the booth after Fox wraps up its part of the NASCAR TV schedule in June, and he said, “I thought people would say, ‘I remember him as a driver.’ A lot of people don’t even know I had a driving career. All they remember me for is, ‘Boogity, boogity, boogity, let's go racing boys,’ in my TV career. But I’m happy about that.”

Waltrip added, “I want to make something perfectly clear: Nobody forced me to retire. … My plans are at Sonoma to walk out of there. I don’t know if I’ll ever go to another race or not” (“RaceDay,” FS1, 4/7).
