Former MLBer Ryan Howard is leading a six-figure investment in Diamond Kinetics, a six-year old company that puts sensors in baseball bats and balls to provide advanced stats and data. “Our investments are typically between $250,000 and $1M, and this investment falls right in that range,” said SeventySix Capital Managing Partner Wayne Kimmel, whose VC firm is running the fund. Diamond Kinetics also lists Pirates Chair Bob Nutting and former NFLer Troy Polamalu as investors. SeventySix was attracted to DK’s strategy to hit all levels of baseball and softball, from youth leagues to the pros. It partners with 14 bat manufacturers, plus Ripken Baseball and the Babe Ruth League.
