North, South Korea Plan Joint Bid For '32 Summer Olympics

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in today said in a statement that the countries "planned to jointly bid" for the '32 Summer Games. The IOC "traditionally does not announce host cities until seven years ahead of the Games," which would give the Koreas until '25 to "put together a joint bid." Germany has announced plans for a "multicity bid" for '32. Brisbane, Australia, is also bidding, and India's Olympic Committee has "indicated its interest" (AP, 9/19).

Meanwhile, Turin is no longer part of Italy’s "three-pronged bid" for the '26 Winter Games, so it is now a "two-city candidacy featuring Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo." The Italian Olympic Committee today is "sending a delegation featuring Milan and Cortina representatives to meet with IOC leader" (AP, 9/18).
