IndyCar Bids Farewell To Verizon As Series Title Sponsor

The Verizon IndyCar Series wrapped up its '18 season yesterday with Scott Dixon claiming his fifth series championship, and the day included goodbyes to two longtime partners in title sponsor Verizon and Sonoma Raceway. Verizon ran its last race as title sponsor of the series, which it has had its name on since '14, though the company will continue as a sponsor of Team Penske next year. Verizon Wireless Exec VP & Group President Ronan Dunne was among those in attendance at the race this weekend.

Meanwhile, the race, won by Ryan Hunter-Reay, marked the end of Sonoma’s 14-year run hosting IndyCar. The SMI-owned track, which is being replaced on the calendar next year by WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, Calif., tweeted after the race, “The curtain closes on @IndyCar in Sonoma. Thank you to all the amazing fans the last 14 years. Take care of them @WeatherTechRcwy.”
