Nationals Extend GM Rizzo's Contract Ahead Of Home Opener

The Nationals have agreed to a two-year contract extension with President of Baseball Operations & GM Mike Rizzo through the '20 season. The news comes as the Nationals today host the NL East rival Mets in their home opener (THE DAILY). Rizzo, whose previous contract was set to expire Oct. 31, "turned a spring of internal unrest into a newfound sense of stability." Rizzo is the "fifth-longest tenured" GM in MLB. He has "overseen the growth of a franchise from an annual bottom-dweller to one of the most successful teams of this decade" (WASHINGTONPOST.com, 4/5).
