Former NFLers Appeal Judge's Preliminary Approval Of Settlement

Seven former NFL players yesterday appealed a lower federal court judge’s decision to preliminarily approve a class action settlement of medical claims brought against the NFL. The players had objected to the proposed settlement earlier this month, but within a week of their filing Judge Anita Brody gave her preliminary approval. The seven, who include Alan Faneca and Sean Morey, maintain the settlement does not represent them because their ailments are not covered.

The five other former players are Ben Hamilton, Robert Royal, Rock Cartwright, Jeff Rohrer and Sean Considine. Judge Brody has set a November hearing to hear objections to the settlement, but the seven are hoping the appeals court will nullify that hearing by overturning the judge’s approval.
