Serena Williams Could Play At Indian Wells For First Time Since '01

Tennis player Serena Williams' name "appeared on the entry list" released by the BNP Paribas Open yesterday, and the appearance would mark her first at the event since '01 "when she and her family were booed during the tournament final." Because both sisters "have been adamant in the past about not playing in Indian Wells," Tournament Dir Steve Simon is "trying to temper expectations." Also, Serena's camp on Friday after her Australian Open elimination revealed that she "had been battling back problems" (Palm Springs DESERT SUN, 1/22).
