Record Citi Field Crowd Watches Rivera Steal All-Star Show

Last night's MLB All-Star Game attendance was 45,186, the largest crowd at Citi Field since the ballpark opened in '09. The total was buttressed in part by sales of more than 4,000 standing-room tickets. With last night's draw, the total paid attendance for the Futures Game, Home Run Derby and All-Star Game was 127,919 (Eric Fisher, Staff Writer).

Yankees P Mariano Rivera retired the side in the eighth inning and was named MVP in his farewell All-Star Game appearance, and the N.Y. DAILY NEWS' Anthony McCarron writes his entrance "was the signature moment of this year's Midsummer Classic." BOSTON HERALD's Steve Buckley: "It was perfect." N.Y. DAILY NEWS' John Harper writes it was "Rivera's night, and good thing, because not much else happened" in the AL's "nondescript" 3-0 win. SI.com's Joe Lemire writes Rivera saved an "otherwise lackluster game from being forgotten" and received the "adoring sendoff he so rightly deserves."
