WTA Plans Wimbledon Event Uniting Key Figures In Its History
The WTA announced plans for a "glitzy event on the middle weekend of Wimbledon" that will bring together "more than 20 of the 23 women who have been ranked number one" since the league's founding exactly 40 years ago today. Also present will be the "original nine players" who formed the organization. WTA Chair & CEO Stacey Allaster said that without Billie Jean King and her colleagues, "the riches and opportunities on offer today would not exist" (GUARDIAN, 6/20).
The event is another aspect in the WTA's season-long celebration of its 40-year anniversary.
