Watson Announced As U.S. Ryder Cup Captain On "Today" Show
The PGA of America this morning on NBC’s “Today” show formally announced Tom Watson will captain the U.S. Ryder Cup team in '14 at Gleneagles in Scotland. Watson previously was captain of the victorious '93 U.S. team. PGA of America President Ted Bishop said of Watson, “We’ve got the right guy to lead our team. It’ll be 21 years since the United States won on foreign soil and ironically, this man was the last winning captain.”
Watson said, "I loved it the first time and a great fan of the Ryder Cup. I’ve always been watching it. I get the same gut feeling just watching it on TV when NBC does it, and it’s a great honor to be able to do it again” (“Today,” NBC, 12/13).
