Potential Hosts Face Deadline For SEC-Big 12 Champions Bowl Bids

The Big 12 and SEC have set today as a deadline to receive bids to host their Champions Bowl. The two conferences reportedly have received bids from at least five cities – Arlington, Atlanta, Houston, New Orleans and San Antonio. It is not known whether five other cities invited to submit bids – Jacksonville, Nashville, Orlando, Phoenix and Tampa – have “decided to make bids before today’s deadline.” A decision on the game is “expected to be made by the two conferences next month” (SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS, 8/22).

The city of Houston yesterday submitted a bid to host the game. The bid is "for 12 years and includes being a semifinal site four times." Meineke Car Care Bowl Of Texas Exec Dir Heather Houston: “The only thing we don’t have going for us is the history, but we have a lot of other things that make up for that” (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 8/22).
