Hockey Canada's Staging Of World Juniors A "Resounding Success"

The '12 IIHF World Junior hockey tournament concluded last night with Sweden's 1-0 win over Russia in the title game at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, and Hockey Canada's staging of the event was "a resounding success." Organizers of the 10-team, 31-game tourney sold 571,000 tickets to an estimated 440,000 fans. The event will "probably produce a bottom line" of more than C$20M, the "biggest cash windfall in the 10 times the tournament has been held in Canada" (CALGARY HERALD, 1/6).

The gold medal game drew a crowd of 18,722 (EDMONTON JOURNAL,1/6).
