NBC's Bob Costas Gets Exclusive Interview With Jerry Sandusky

Bob Costas put NBC’s “Rock Center” news magazine show "on the map" last night with an exclusive interview with former Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky. The Baltimore SUN's David Zurawik writes, “What a ‘get’ for Costas, and what a superb job of getting to the heart of the matter.” He did it “over the phone no less – he didn’t even have in-person access” (Baltimore SUN, 11/15). NBC's "Today" show led the broadcast with a follow-up on the interview and a re-broadcast of much of it. The net's Matt Lauer said the Q&A is "making a lot of headlines" this morning (THE DAILY).

The Hollywood Reporter's Lacey Rose wrote on her Twitter feed, "You may not like the fact that he gave Sandusky a platform, but you cant deny the Bob Costas delivered some first rate journalism tonight." NFL.com's Jeff Darlington tweeted, "Why doesn't Bob Costas do more hard-hitting interviews like the one he conducted with Sandusky tonight? He was brilliantly fair & thorough." EAG Sports Management CEO Denise White: "Not too sure how I feel about Sandusky interview by Bob Costas. Definitely feel he could've been more aggressive on his line of questioning."
