D'Backs-Nationals Game Delayed Due To East Coast Earthquake

Last night's D-Backs-Nationals game was delayed 20 minutes in the wake of the East Coast earthquake that originated in nearby central Virginia. Nationals Park was evacuated, but staff members were let back in around 2:30pm ET. The ballpark "was still being checked for structural damages" as 6:00pm approached. The game began at 7:25pm, instead of its original 7:05pm start time. The center field gates were opened to fans at 6:40pm, instead of the usual 4:35pm for night games (WASHINGTON TIMES, 8/24). The D'Backs "had a difficult time getting to the park" and arrived shortly after 5:00pm (MLB.com, 8/23).

Meanwhile, the threat of Hurricane Irene has forced the Marlins to postpone tomorrow's game against the Reds and instead play two games today. Fans can attend both games "for the price of one," and tickets for tomorrow's game "can be redeemed for any remaining home game this season," starting today (PALM BEACH POST, 8/24).
