Several College Conference Realignment Moves Take Effect Today

Several college conference realignments take effect today, as the Pac-10 officially becomes the Pac-12 with the additions of Utah and Colorado; Nebraska joins the Big Ten; Boise State moves to the Mountain West Conference; and BYU becomes part of the West Coast Conference for "most sports." Utah Gov. Gary Herbert and Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper have declared today Pac-12 Day in their respective states, and Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott will speak at an event in Salt Lake City. University officials at Nebraska "will have a morning ceremony to mark the school's move" (USA TODAY, 7/1).

Workers at Colorado yesterday "took down old Big 12 signs and emblems of schools in its former conference and replaced them around campus with Pac-12 versions." The campus bookstore "began selling T-shirts boasting CU's new affiliation." Boulder Mayor Susan Osborne declared it Pac-12 Day in the city, in addition to the statewide proclamation (Boulder DAILY CAMERA, 7/1).
