Snow Wipes Out Stage 1 Of Amgen Tour Of California Cycling Race

The Amgen Tour of California yesterday had to cancel a day of cycling "for the first time in its six-year history" due to snow in the Lake Tahoe area. About three inches of snow accumulated overnight in the city, and "more was falling" yesterday, "especially on the part of the route that climbs to an elevation of more than 7,000 feet." Andrew Messick, President of race operator AEG Sports, said that the Stage 2 route "might not be determined" until 8:00am PT today (L.A. TIMES, 5/16).
