NFL Partners With Government Agencies To Fight Childhood Obesity

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack today will announce the creation of a new foundation by the NFL and "several government agencies" in an effort to fight childhood obesity. The foundation will be named YOUth. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and Rams QB Sam Bradford will be on hand for the announcement (DALLASNEWS.com, 2/4).

Meanwhile, NFL Charities yesterday donated $1M to establish the North Texas Youth Education Town to fund expansions and renovations at a Salvation Army site in Arlington. The donation was matched by $1M from the Gene and Jerry Jones Family Arlington Youth Foundation (NFL). The YET Center "will help homeless and in-need youth in North Texas." The Salvation Army "will operate the Super Bowl XLV YET, which will run after-school programs, fitness classes and computer labs" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 2/4).
