MLB Season Preview

MLB counts 35 official sponsors, with more on the way

MLB enters the 2023 season with 35 sponsors -- a roster that league officials said will grow over the next few weeks as “a number of new deals being finalized will be announced after Opening Day” based on specific activation plans. Booking.com, Casamigos, Charlotte’s Web, FanDuel, Sage, SeatGeek, Sorare and Zoom all are entering their first full season as a sponsor. Most of those brands gained rights to categories that had not previously been sold by the league, including CBD, vodka and sleep wellness. Although the official category for the new Casamigos deal has not yet been officially determined as of press time, MLB has never had an official tequila. MLB officials project that this season’s total sponsorship revenue will top 2022, as the average value of the sponsorships has increased. There are 11 brands that did not return after last season, were replaced in their category or have yet to renew for 2023: DraftKings (a sponsor since 2013); Camping World (2017); Geico, GlaxoSmithKline, Mitel and Netspend (each since 2018); Roman (2019); Lysol and Spectrum Solutions (each since 2020); FTX (2021); and Cue Health (2022).

BUZZCAST: SBJ's Abe Madkour highlights some MLB sponsors in today's Buzzcast (2:09-3:08).
