Stephen Curry's PGA Tour Event In S.F. Likely Off Table

The "long-simmering plans" for a Stephen Curry-hosted PGA Tour event at Harding Park in S.F. "all but disappeared" last week, when the tour announced that Curry’s charitable foundation "will become a primary beneficiary of the Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio," according to Ron Kroichick of the S.F. CHRONICLE. Workday, which will serve as presenting sponsor of the Memorial in a 10-year contract starting in '22, previously "was in line to become title sponsor of a potential Curry event at Harding." The tournament "would have benefited" Curry and his wife Ayesha's Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation. But sources said that Workday CEO Aneel Bhusri "grew intrigued by the idea of establishing an affiliation" with Jack Nicklaus at the Memorial. The news "leaves Harding Park without a PGA Tour event on the horizon for the first time in nearly 20 years." S.F. officials "revised their contract with the PGA Tour in July, relinquishing the 2026 Presidents Cup in anticipation of landing an annual event hosted by Curry." S.F. Recreation & Park Department GM Phil Ginsburg "did not express regrets about giving up the Presidents Cup, suggesting the tour would have moved it anyway" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 12/19).
