Colin Kaepernick Gets His Own Flavor Of Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream

Colin Kaepernick will have a new flavor from Vermont-based ice cream company Ben & Jerry’s named after him called “Change the Whirled,” according to Jeff Beer of FAST COMPANY. The flavor, which will be released next year in both the U.S. and select int'l markets, is “vegan and will be a nondairy frozen dessert featuring a caramel sunflower butter base with fudge chips, graham cracker swirls, and chocolate cookie swirls.” The company’s relationship with Kaepernick “actually started with a shoe,” when Nike worked with Ben & Jerry’s on the Chunky Dunky. Ben & Jerry’s Global Head of Integrated Marketing Jay Curley indicated that the company “donated proceeds from that partnership to the COVID-19 relief efforts being done by Kaepernick’s Know Your Rights Camp foundation.” That led to the two “talking about other ways to work with one another” (FASTCOMPANY.com, 12/10). Curley said that the company and Kaepernick’s camp had been in talks “over the past few years” before the donation to the QB’s foundation reignited things. USA TODAY’s Nancy Armour writes, “By giving Kaepernick his own flavor, and putting his face on the carton where it will be seen in millions of grocery stores, Ben & Jerry’s is telling those Americans still resistant, ‘See? His ideas aren’t so scary.’ By helping fund Know Your Rights Camp, it ensures his work continues” (USA TODAY, 12/10).
