Austin FC's Debut Jersey Features Unique Look For MLS Club

Austin FC’s new kit will be available for purchase beginning today.AUSTIN FC

Austin FC will unveil today their primary kit design, which it will debut next year during their inaugural season. The jersey features the club’s black and green color scheme in wide vertical stripes. Austin FC Owner Anthony Precourt and President Andy Loughnane, along with key Adidas designers and Austin supporters, participated in the design and creative process. MLS VP/Licensing Mike Walker spearheaded the league’s involvement. The club did not work with an outside marketing or creative agency on the kit. Locally-based outdoor brand Yeti is the team’s primary kit sponsor, while Austin-based Netspend will have branding on the right sleeve. A secondary kit will also be introduced at a later date prior to the ’21 season. Loughnane told THE DAILY, “As Austin’s major league team, we believe this jersey has the chance to become the uniform of Austin. We designed this with the intent of it being fashionable. We also designed this with the intent of this becoming part of Austin culture.” Austin’s new kit will be available for purchase beginning today. A ‘83 Chevy Barth, dubbed the ‘Verde Van,’ will serve as the team’s mobile retail shop for a multi-day tour throughout the city.

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING: SI.com’s Brian Straus points out that Austin FC wanted to reflect a sense of “unique self in its kit by designing something that would be almost uniquely theirs.” The Impact and Atlanta United are the only other MLS clubs currently wearing stripes, while there are only a few clubs across the globe that utilize green and black stripes. The Austin American-Statesman’s Chris Blis notes creating something unique that will stand the test of time in the past “has proven challenging” for MLS clubs. Club officials hope this signature look becomes “synonymous with the capital city beyond just the soccer stadium.”
