NFL Could Push New Orleans' Super Bowl Back One Year Due To Conflict

NFL owners are scheduled to vote to move Super Bowl LVIII in '24 out of New Orleans because of a conflict with Mardi Gras, instead giving the city hosting duties for Super Bowl LIX in '25. New Orleans was awarded the game in May '18, but the new CBA signed in March allows for a 17th game to be added to the schedule as early as '21. That extended season would put the Super Bowl just two days before Mardi Gras due to an early Easter in '24. The new host of the '24 game will not be decided today, sources said. But past precedent would suggest that Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium would be a front runner as the newest NFL venue to not yet land in the Super Bowl rotation. Two sources said a scheduling conflict that had kept Vegas out of consideration for '24 has been resolved. The NFL declined to comment. The future confirmed Super Bowl hosts are Raymond James Stadium in Tampa for '21, SoFi Stadium near L.A. in '22, and State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., for '23. The next Super Bowl in New Orleans will be the city’s 11th, tying it with Miami for most ever.
