Saints To Host Series Focused On Black Women Throughout '20 Season

ESPN's Maria Taylor will serve as a member on the Saints' advisory board for the initiativeESPN IMAGES

The Saints will use the '20 season to "uplift the voices and experiences of Black women through a season-long series focused on the intersections of being a Black woman in America," according to Amie Just of NOLA.com. The team will be "hosting larger conversations throughout the season on several topics." These include: "Week 3: Black women and education; Week 5: Black women and healthcare; Week 7: Black women and domestic violence; Week 10: Black women and the intersection of oppression; Week 11: Black women, sports and media; Week 15: Black women, social justice and racial equality; and Week 16: Black women and raising the next generation of Black boys." They Saints also "brought on an advisory board of Black women to share their stories," which includes WNBA Washington Mystics G Natasha Cloud, ESPN's Maria Taylor, NFL Network's MJ Acosta, Bleacher Report's Taylor Rooks and Players Coalition's Chelsea Heyward. The players "know they'll receive some backlash for not sticking to sports," but for them, it is "so much bigger than athletics." Saints OL Terron Armstead said, "It's at the point now where it's a disservice to our families, our communities to stick to sports" (NOLA.com, 9/11).
