Washington NFL Team Owner Mulls Possibility Of Keeping Name

The team only had two months to completely scrub its old name and logo from everythingGETTY IMAGES

Washington Football Team Owner Dan Snyder is allowing for the possibility of "keeping the temporary name for good," according to Andrew Beaton of the WALL STREET JOURNAL. Snyder said, "If the Washington Football Team name catches on and our fans embrace it then we would be happy to have it as our permanent name. I think we have developed a very classy retro look and feel." He added that he and his family "had considered renaming the team 'multiple times' over the years." Snyder said the former name had a "long history and was a source of pride" for fans for decades, adding that the "decision to change was not an easy one." Beaton notes the decision to go by Washington Football Team in July gave the team under two months to "completely scrub its old name and logo from everything -- websites, street signs, stadium signage and more." Snyder: "It is truly a massive undertaking. We are essentially doing something that would typically take up to 6 months and doing it in less than 45 days." Snyder said that he "doesn't have a date in mind when he expects a final decision on what the team will ultimately be called" (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 9/14).
