NBA Kings Leading Group Of Teams Helping Increase Voter Registration

The NBA Kings are leading a coalition of 20 pro franchises and two sports and entertainment celebrity-backed voter registration groups ahead of the '20 election. “Rally the Vote” is a non-partisan group aimed at increasing the amount of new voter registrations. The coalition is made up of RISE, which was founded by Dolphins Owner Stephen Ross, and When We All Vote, which counts Thunder G and NBPA President Chris Paul and USWNT F Megan Rapinoe as Chairs. In addition to the Kings, Rally the Vote includes the Bucks, Bulls, Fever, MLB Giants, NFL Giants, LAFC, Lynx, Mercury, Mystics, Nuggets, Pacers, Padres, Sky, NWSL Spirit, Storm, T'Wolves, Trail Blazers, White Sox and Wizards, as well as Athletes Unlimited. Coalition members are encouraged to give employees a paid day off to vote and use their arenas and stadiums to expand access to voting during the '20 election. The Bulls, Kings, Lynx, Mystics, T'Wolves and Wizards have previously announced that Election Day will be a paid day off for all employees. The Kings’ Golden 1 Center will be used as a vote center for 11 days leading up to and on Nov. 3. Kings employees will also serve as election officers at Golden 1 Center to help address the expected shortage of poll workers due to COVID-19. The Pacers will encourage their staff to serve as poll workers on Election Day as well. The Bucks and Monumental Sports & Entertainment have offered Fiserv Forum and Capital One Arena, respectively, to their cities’ officials to serve as voting centers for the election.

CAVS ROCK THE VOTE: The Cavaliers' Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse also will serve as an election site for November's general election. The arena on Sept. 22 also will host a nonpartisan National Voter Registration Day. The Cavaliers join the Kings, Hawks and Pistons as NBA teams using their home venues as an election precinct.
