Oilers' 50/50 Raffle Shatters World Record With $5.4M Capped Pot

The Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation 50/50 draw became the "hottest ticket in town" for yesterday's Game 3 against the Blackhawks, as tickets "sold out six hours before puck drop, with a total pot" of $5.4M (all figures C), according to Ashley Joannou of the EDMONTON JOURNAL. In a statement issued yesterday afternoon, the foundation said it closed the online draw “as it reached the server provider’s maximum allowable tickets sales.” Joannou reports the winning ticket holder will "walk away with $2,708,565." As for the foundation’s half of the money, the statement said that it will go toward programs "aimed at vulnerable people in the community, especially in Edmonton’s downtown neighbourhoods, and on youth hockey programming." Alberta Associate Minister of Red Tape Reduction Grant Hunter said that Monday’s Game 2 pot "first set a new world record for 50/50 sports raffles, which eclipsed a record jackpot" issued in '18 by the Canucks "worth $1,413,630" (EDMONTON JOURNAL, 8/6).
