Jeff Miller Takes Over NFL's Top Spot Overseeing PR, Lobbying

Miller will retain his old duties, which include research and development in equipment and player safety.NFL

NFL Commissioner ROGER GOODELL has named veteran senior exec JEFF MILLER to replace JOCELYN MOORE as the top league official overseeing public relations and lobbying. Miller, who has spent the last eight of his 12 years with the NFL as Exec VP/Health & Safety Initiatives, becomes Exec VP/Public Affairs, Communications & Policy. He will retain his old duties, which include research and development in equipment and player safety. Goodell in a statement said, “Jeff’s experience -- from policy development, to government relations and philanthropic endeavors, as well as continuing to champion our highest priority, the health and safety of players -- makes him the right fit, especially today.” Miller will be the fourth person to hold the top communications/lobbying role in less than five years. Moore left in April after fewer than two years in the role. She replaced former Clinton Press Secretary JOE LOCKHART, who himself lasted just two years after replacing PAUL HICKS in January '16. This is a return to his professional roots for Miller, who started his time at the NFL in '08 when he launched the league’s DC office as Senior VP/Governmental & Public Affairs. Before that, he was chief council and staff director for the anti-trust/business subcommittee of the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee.
