Coyotes Looking For New Top Exec After Ahron Cohen's Departure

Cohen played a significant role in helping the Coyotes find new ownership in '18GETTY IMAGES

Coyotes Owner Alex Meruelo is looking for a new top team exec after President & CEO Ahron Cohen "parted ways" with the organization, though it is unknown when Meruelo "plans to name a replacement," according to Richard Morin of the ARIZONA REPUBLIC. It is unclear why Cohen, a '20 SBJ "Forty Under 40" honoree, is leaving the franchise he first joined in '15 as general counsel. Cohen took his most recent position in '18 after replacing Steve Patterson. Cohen "played a significant role in the organization's search for new ownership," which resulted in Meruelo coming on board in July '19. Meanwhile, sources confirmed that Coyotes CFO Gregg Olson and the organization also have "parted ways, likely under similar circumstances" (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 5/12). THE ATHLETIC's Craig Morton, who first reported Cohen's departure, noted the Coyotes "enjoyed improvement in multiple areas, including ticket sales, attendance, sponsorship sales and TV ratings," during Cohen's tenure. His "greatest legacy with the Coyotes will likely be the inclusive and responsive relationship he developed with the greater community, to which the Coyotes contributed a franchise-record $3.4 million in 2018-19" (THEATHLETIC.com, 5/12).
