Jumbotron Contractors At Barclays Center Not Paid During Shutdown

The contractors who run the jumbotron during events at Barclays Center "have not been paid while the arena has [been] shut down, though most other hourly workers will be compensated through the end of May," according to Kristian Winfield of the N.Y. DAILY NEWS. BSE Global, the company that runs Barclays Center, "contracts its jumbotron technical support through a company called Green Line." BSE "stopped payment to Green Line for this group of contractors on March 12 ... two days before" Nets Owner Joe Tsai "made his pledge to continue to pay hourly workers their normal wages though what would have been the end of the NBA's regular season into the playoffs." The contractors, who serve as cameramen, videographers, audio assistants and more, "were not included." BSE Global contracts AEG to manage Barclays Center, and AEG has a subsidiary called ASM Global, "which has contracts with Green Line." A source said that Green Line "pays Barry Fialk, Inc. to hire the technical crew, and Barry Fialk hires CAPS LLC to manage the payroll." Winfield notes the "never-ending list of subcontractors makes it difficult to pinpoint who is responsible for paying who in the event of a total shutdown." As for Tsai's part, he has "committed a substantial amount of money and resources toward coronavirus relief in the city," and he is "paying normal wages" to the tune of $6M (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 5/8).
