PLL Hopes For Successful Second Season Amid Pandemic Uncertainty

The PLL became the first pro lacrosse league to earn a consistent national audience on NBCGETTY IMAGES

The second Premier Lacrosse League season is scheduled to open at the end of May, and with the second year of success "vital in any sports league," the timing of the coronavirus crisis coming before the season begins is a "stroke of some sort of luck compared to in the middle of it, like the indoor National Lacrosse League," according to Marisa Ingemi of the BOSTON HERALD. The PLL's first season was "largely seen as a success, becoming the first" pro lacrosse league to "earn a consistent national audience on NBC, and the league format has been lauded" as well. PLL co-Founder Paul Rabil said of the league's preparedness, "Everyone's trying to solve for the uncertainty. ... Measures we took in the interim are working at home for all of our employees, we've offered resources to our players. ... Part of the structure of our business was offering healthcare, where COVID testing was taken care of." Ingemi noted with seven teams, none of the PLL's clubs have a "set location and instead use a touring model," which "may be an advantage for them." Ingemi: "Things have been looking up for the PLL." The league just added Ticketmaster as a "presenting league sponsor and continue to get more exposure than any lacrosse entity in the world through broadcasts" (BOSTON HERALD, 3/25).
