Bears Decide Not To Extend Season-Ticket Payment Deadline

The Bears said only about 2% of season-ticket holders called to ask for more time to payGETTY IMAGES

The Bears stuck to their March 20 deadline for season-ticket payments and that "didn't go over so well with some fans," since 50% of NFL teams have "pushed back deadlines for season-ticket payments as a result of the coronavirus outbreak," according to Steve Greenberg of the CHICAGO SUN-TIMES. Bears season-ticket holder Frank Bomher in an email wrote, "Our beloved Chicago Bears demanded I get them my $20,000 for my 41st year as a season-ticket holder or they would take the tickets away." Greenberg notes the Bears were "prepared to work on individual solutions with season-ticket holders who requested relief in some form in advance of the deadline." The team said that is its "standard operating procedure." But there was "no language to that effect in the renewal letter to season-ticket holders." Bears Senior VP/Marketing & Communications Scott Hagel said that "only about 2% of season-ticket holders called and asked for more time." Hagel: "We've been trying to customize programs to the individual season-ticket holders based on their circumstances. We felt like that was the best route for us to take to truly solve the problem" (CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 3/27).
