Kentucky coach John Calipari earned $8.2M in total compensation in '20, topping the listGETTY IMAGES

USA TODAY released its annual report on the highest paid head coaches in men's college basketball. Kentucky's JOHN CALIPARI ($8.2M in total pay) tops the list for '20. Rounding out the top five are Duke's MIKE KRZYZEWSKI ($7.3M), UCLA's MICK CRONIN ($5.5M), Tennessee's RICK BARNES ($4.7M) and Texas Tech's CHRIS BEARD ($4.4M) (USA TODAY, 3/12).

HORSE POWER: The top two execs at Churchill Downs Inc. "saw significant decreases in their compensation last year after a spike" in '18. CEO BILL CARSTANJEN's compensation "decreased by roughly 50%" to $10.6M from $21.1M, including a "nearly 64% decrease in stock awards" from $16.8M to $6M. President & COO BILL MUDD "saw his total compensation decrease by almost 54%" to $5.2M from $11.4M, "including a 72.5% decrease in stock awards from nearly" $9.4M to almost $2.6M (BIZJOURNALS.com, 3/11).

THE GOOD STUFF: The Blues donated 19% of merchandise sales at yesterday's game against the Ducks, "plus the charitable half of the game’s 50-50 raffle, to UCI Health." Blues defenseman JAY BOUWMEESTER was "rushed to UC Irvine Medical Center after his cardiac episode" against the Ducks at Honda Center on Feb. 11. Prior to puck drop, the Honda Center public address announcer "thanked the first responders, trainers, EMTs, doctors and other medical personnel for their actions that night to save Bouwmeester’s life" (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 3/12).

NAMES: USA Swimming has "reached an out of court with settlement" with world champion ARIANA KUKORS SMITH in her lawsuit against the NGB for its "alleged role in her sexual abuse by her longtime coach," SEAN HUTCHISON. The settlement comes 18 months after the U.S. Center for SafeSport banned Hutchison "from the sport for life, finding he engaged in sexual misconduct" with Kukors Smith when she was a minor (L.A. DAILY NEWS, 3/12)....Former NFLer JAMES HARRISON will be a series regular on Starz' "upcoming original scripted series, 'HEELS.'" Harrison also was a guest star on CBS' "S.W.A.T." last year (PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE, 3/12)....The Clearview Golf Club head professional RENEE POWELL has been chosen as the '20 "recipient of the Donald Ross Award by the American Society of Golf Course Architects" (AKRON BEACON JOURNAL, 3/12)....The Tennessee Radio HOF announced that Titans broadcaster MIKE KEITH will be "inducted as a member of the Class of 2020" in August (Nashville TENNESSEAN, 3/12).
