Union Secure Live In-Market Streams Of Games With New Deal

This season will mark the first time in years that Union games will be widely available online to local fansGETTY IMAGES

The Union have signed a deal to keep local broadcasts on WPVI-ABC and WPHL-MYT that will see games "streamed live on the team's website free of charge for fans in the Philadelphia market," according to Jonathan Tannenwald of the PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER. This marks the "first time in years that Union games will be widely available online to local fans." Streaming games outside of the local market will still be available through the league-wide deal with ESPN+. Broadcasts through the Union's website at present "will not be archived for replaying later," and it is "unclear whether that blackout will come off ESPN+ after the game ends." The Union follow DC United in opting for "this kind of set up," and it "won't be surprising if others do too." JP Dellacamera and Tommy Smyth will return as the team's broadcast crew. There is "no word yet on whether the Union will bring back the Spanish-language local broadcasts they trialed a handful of times last year" (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 2/27).
