Orioles, Mets To Play March Exhibition Game At Naval Academy

Tickets for the game will be given to members of the Brigade of Midshipmen and select U.S. Navy personnelnavy athletics

The Orioles and Mets will play an "exhibition game" at the Naval Academy's Max Bishop Stadium on March 24, according to Bill Wagner of the Annapolis CAPITAL GAZETTE. For the game, tickets are "being distributed to members of the Brigade of Midshipmen along with select U.S. Navy personnel." Tickets "will not be available to the public." Prior to the game, players and staff from each team will "visit with representatives from the Naval Academy and tour the academy facilities." This year's exhibition will "mark the 13th time a major league team has played at Bishop Stadium with the Orioles accounting for seven of those appearances." In '18, the Orioles entered a multi-year partnership with the academy that "included playing an exhibition game" last March. However, that game "would up not happening with the Orioles postponing for a year" (Annapolis CAPITAL GAZETTE, 2/21).

TERRITORIAL DISPUTE: In DC, Jake Russell notes the Nationals played the Red Sox in Annapolis in April '17, in the "first of what was supposed to be three annual installments of the Naval Academy Baseball Classic." Both teams "toured the academy grounds and ate breakfast with midshipmen." But future games were "shut down because of a territorial dispute between the Orioles and Nationals." According to the MLB Constitution, Arundel County, where Annapolis is located, "falls under Orioles territory" (WASHINGTON POST, 2/21).
