The NBA and Turner Sports Renew Twitter Deal, Add Fan Engagement Tools

The NBA and its digital partner, Turner Sports, announced a multiyear partnership extension with Twitter. For the second consecutive year, Twitter will livestream the second halves of at least 20 NBA games that are being shown on TNT this season.

Twitter’s slate of games will include the All-Star Game, at least 16 playoff games, and select regular-season games. The league also announced that retired NBA veteran Channing Frye will be an analyst for Twitter’s livestreams of games. He will be joined by a rotating panel of NBA influencers. Fans can watch the streams via the @NBAonTNT Twitter account.

“We're excited to deepen our partnership with the NBA by bringing new and improved live game streams, interactive voting polls, as well as the best of the best NBA highlights to further ignite #NBATwitter conversation,” TJ Adeshola, head of U.S. sports partnerships at Twitter, said in a press release.

Twitter polls will allow fans to vote for which player they want to see followed by an isolated-camera feed during the livestreams, which are only available in the U.S. A new polling feature this season also allows fans to vote for their favorite plays, moments and teams to watch during pre-game warmups. For the upcoming NBA playoffs, users can partake in Q&A sessions with players on Twitter for the first time.
