Univ. Of Florida Will Sell Alcohol At Men's Basketball Games

The Univ. of Florida will "unveil a pilot program to sell alcohol in concession areas" starting with the men's basketball team's season opener tonight against North Florida, and UF will "continue evaluating plans to serve alcohol at additional events," according to Graham Hall of the GAINESVILLE SUN. Alcoholic beverages only will be "sold at stationary locations and all sales will require identification checks." Concessionaire Centerplate will "continue to train its staff in accordance with the SEC's revised guidelines and policies" (GAINESVILLE SUN, 11/5). In Miami, C. Isaiah Smalls II notes adherent to the SEC policy, UF has "enacted specific rules including the sale of alcohol only in stationary areas, the purchase of a maximum two drinks per trip, and a cutoff time at the start of the second half." Vendors "won't be able to go into the seating area" (MIAMI HERALD, 11/5). In Orlando, Edgar Thompson notes UF was one of six SEC schools that decided to "not sell alcohol during football games this season" (ORLANDO SENTINEL, 11/5).

POP A TOP AGAIN: The Columbia MISSOURIAN reports beer and wine will be sold during Univ. of Missouri men's and women's basketball games this season. MU Deputy AD/Communications Nick Joos said that the policies for alcohol sales will be "nearly identical to what they are for football games, with sales cut off at the 12-minute mark in the second half for men's games and at the end of the third quarter for women's games" (Columbia MISSOURIAN, 11/5).
