Deshaun Watson Plugs Popeye's When Asked About Eye Injury

Watson's eye was injured when it was accidentally kicked during Raiders-Texans last weekgetty images

Texans QB Deshaun Watson yesterday credited an unlikely source for helping him recover from an eye injury he suffered last week against the Raiders. Following the Texans' 26-3 win over the Jaguars in London, Watson was asked about the status of his eye, which he said was doing "great." Watson: "I'll tell you the key -- the key is the Popeye's spicy chicken sandwiches that I ate this week that helped the eye." NFL Network's Melissa Stark did not miss a beat, saying, "That's a nice little plug" (NFL Network, 11/3).

POPULARITY KEEP GROWING: In Houston, Aaron Wilson noted Watson is a "popular figure in NFL circles," as his No. 4 jersey ranked as the 12th-best seller on the NFL Shop's website this spring. He also has "continued to rack up endorsement deals with Nike, Beats by Dre and several other brands." His growing reputation as "one of the best quarterbacks is something the Texans are extremely proud of." Texans President Jamey Rootes: "He represents our brand in an exceptional way. As amazing as he is as a quarterback, he's just an outstanding human being. He's the kind of person we want to have representing the city of Houston. It's a real advantage for us to have such an engaging, likable guy like Deshaun" (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 11/3).
