MLBShop.com Sells $100,000 In "Baby Shark" Merch In Recent Days

MLBShop.com in the last 10 days has "sold more than 4,500 various adult and children's 'Baby Shark' products, totaling more than $100,000," according to Jabari Young of CNBC.com. The children's song became an "MLB phenomenon" when Nationals CF Gerardo Parra started using it "as his walk-up music" earlier this season. Fans then "caught on to the 'Baby Shark' craze," contributing to MLB's retail sales. Jerseys for both World Series teams also are "hot," with the best-selling jerseys belonging to Astros 2B Jose Altuve and 3B Alex Bregman. Nationals P Max Scherzer has the "third-most popular jersey," and Nationals SS Trea Turner's is fifth. Since the postseason began, the Nationals have "four players, while the Astros have six, in the top 30 most popular jersey sales." Before the World Series, AL and NL champions apparel online sales "increased 33% year-over-year." Sales on Nationals and Astros locker room caps and T-shirts "increased 78% year-over-year" (CNBC.com, 10/29).
