Eurosport to Stream Real-Time Tokyo 2020 Highlights via Twitter

Eurosport has agreed to a content and advertising partnership with Twitter for the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics. The deal will see the Discovery owned network host live video streams and publish real-time highlights from the Games on its official Twitter account during Tokyo 2020. That content will be available in select European markets.

In 2015, Eurosport signed a $1.4 billion deal with the IOC to secure exclusive live broadcast TV and digital streaming rights across 50 European countries and territories through Paris 2024. Eurosport’s deal with Twitter for 2020 will only cover 16 of those: Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland and the U.K.

In those 16, Eurosport’s Twitter account will also feature content from the network’s “Road to Tokyo.” The account will additionally live stream both the opening and closing ceremonies in nine of the 16.

All of Eurosport’s content on Twitter will include in-stream advertisements from brands. NBC, which holds the U.S. broadcasting rights for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, announced a similar content partnership with Twitter in June.
