In Boston, Joe Haggerty noted Bruins Owner Jeremy Jacobs and his son, Charlie, "assured that there would be no change to the current power structure at the top" of the organization as Jeremy Jacobs hands ownership over to his six children. Jeremy Jacobs will "still remain the powerful" Chair of the NHL BOG and Charlie will "still be the principal ownership presence day-to-day in Boston while spending four days a week working at TD Garden." There "may have been some speculation" that Jacobs' retirement from the NHL BOG "could be forthcoming given that he was signing things over to his kids." But he confirmed on Tuesday that he "plans on continuing in his current role overseeing the league" (NBCSPORTSBOSTON.com, 10/2).
WIN OR STAY HOME: In Minneapolis, Patrick Reusse writes the Wild's "current sellout streak for regular-season games stands at 229," but that "figures to end early this season." The team is "coming off its first non-playoff season since the arrival" of LW Zach Parise and D Ryan Suter. Reusse: "Add dull to subpar results and that will put an end to the passion of a second honeymoon, even in the State of Hockey." There is "only one avenue to quickly reignite the embers" this season: "Win, and score more than 2.5 goals per game while doing so" (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 10/3).
TAKING THE LEAD: NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman on Sabres co-Owner Kim Pegula's expanded role with the franchise said, "Kim is very committed to the important social causes we think our league and our clubs represent." He added, "We want to make a difference in people's lives. She declared to me from the outset that these were things that were important to them as well. I love her energy, her passion, her smarts. I love her commitment to do all of these things and she was a very logical choice. She actually comes to more board meetings than [Sabres co-Owner Terry Pegula] does!" (BUFFALO NEWS, 10/3).
