Tennessee, Cal Latest Schools To Approve Beer Sales At FB Games

The Univ. of Tennessee will sell beer throughout Neyland Stadium beginning with the Sept. 7 game against BYU, according to Ryan Wilusz of the Knoxville NEWS SENTINEL. Beer stands and kiosks will be in place around the stadium with the "exception of areas near the student section." A school-appointed "alcohol task force" has been developing "policies to make sure alcohol is served responsibly" since the SEC approved stadium-wide beer sales in May. However, the policies were "more about implementing a plan created by vending company Aramark and approved by the city beer board" (Knoxville NEWS SENTINEL, 8/16).

CAL JOINS THE TREND: In S.F., Jill Tucker reports Cal will sell beer and wine at Memorial Stadium this season, with fans able to buy products at "eight locations throughout the stadium, but only until the start of the third quarter." Fans "can't bring the beverages into the student section" or a designated family-seating area. Meanwhile, the school announced fans "will have to file through metal detectors" in order to get inside the stadium. Cal said that the metal detectors would be "placed at every gate into the stadium, something that was already in place last year at Haas Pavilion for basketball games." A school official said that the "heightened security was not in response to the recent deadly shootings," but was "already in process" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 8/16).
