Schools Roll Out Throwback Under Armour Unis For Football Season

The Univ. of South Carolina football team this season will "break out some old-school looks" as part of Under Armour's "School Heritage" line of throwback uniforms, according to Breiner & Hadley of the Columbia STATE. The new uniforms are an "homage to the program's 'Black Magic' 1984 season and 'Black Death' defense" from '87, and are "connected to the sport's 150th anniversary celebration." In addition to "black uniforms with garnet and white stripes on the sleeves and collar and 'Gamecocks' written across the chest, the ensemble includes garnet helmets with the block C logo inside a white circle, as well as white pants, garnet socks and white cleats." Meanwhile, fellow UA school Maryland yesterday announced it would "wear throwback jerseys for its homecoming game on Nov. 2." Notre Dame will also "take part in the throwback promotion," while Wisconsin and Northwestern will "wear their retro duds on Sept. 28" (Columbia STATE, 8/14).

GETTING IN ON THE FUN: In South Bend, Carter Karels noted Notre Dame will "commemorate its 1988 national championship team" by wearing throwback uniforms for their Nov. 23 home game against Boston College (SOUTH BEND TRIBUNE, 8/14). Maryland's throwback uniforms for its game against Michigan will feature the "script 'Terps' on the helmets and pants." The uniforms will "pay homage to the 1980's Maryland teams" (BALTIMORE SUN, 8/14). Meanwhile, in Cincinnati, Fletcher Page notes the Univ. of Cincinnati also revealed a throwback uniform and recently announced new uniforms for each game this season that will "feature a number of performance innovations, including ... stretch mesh ventilation." The new uniforms for Cincinnati, a UA partner since '15, included "white and black jerseys and white and black pants" (CINCINNATI ENQUIRER, 8/14).
