New Wells Fargo Center Scoreboard To Be Installed By Mid-September

Installation of the new $15M Wells Fargo Center scoreboard, which will hang from the roof of the arena, is "expected by mid-September," according to Bob Fernandez of the PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER. The scoreboard, created by Tait, will come with "more than 19 million lighting pixels" and have "three times the screen footage of the current one." Tait Senior Dir of Business Development Tyler Kicera said, "Nobody has done this before. Nothing like it exists in the world." The scoreboard is part of a $265M renovation that Comcast Spectacor announced for the 76ers and Flyers' home in early '18. Tait "designed and installed a dynamic, or kinetic, scoreboard" for the Cowboys at AT&T Stadium. But the Cowboys scoreboard is "affixed to a wall and does not hang in the center of an arena like the one for Wells Fargo." Kicera "compared the new Wells Fargo Center scoreboard’s moving effects to that of the staging for the Omnia Nightclub at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas." Tait "manufactured it from aluminum to keep it under 90,000 pounds." It also will "partly collapse and retract on the ceiling." Tait has a "deadline to complete the scoreboard installation by the Flyers’ first preseason game" against the Islanders on Sept. 16 (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 8/14).
