Redskins, Richmond Officials Discussing Training Camp Extension

The Redskins have been receiving $500,000 annually from Richmond under the current dealredskins

Redskins officials "made time to meet with local and state politicians" in Richmond last week to "discuss the future of the training camp arrangement" with the city, according to Michael Phillips of the RICHMOND TIMES-DISPATCH. Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney said that his team "laid out what the city would need for an extension" between the two sides. He added, "We differ on some items, but at the end of the day, I think we have a good relationship." Stoney: "They know where we stand as a city on the future, and what we would need to move forward." Redskins President Bruce Allen has "taken a similar tone about a potential extension." Richmond Economic Development Authority Chair John Molster said that any extension of the Redskins holding training camp in the city would "need to happen by the end of this year." One "point of contention is the $500,000 annual contribution the Redskins receive" from Richmond. Allen said that the deal's "initial term has been a success, but he wouldn't speculate on the future." Whether the two sides' relationship will continue beyond '20 "isn't something either side is willing to comment on publicly." The EDA has "already begun behind-the-scenes work on what would come next on the site" of the Bon Secours Washington Redskins Training Center if next year's training camp is the "last one" (RICHMOND TIMES-DISPATCH, 8/13).
