Penn State Picks Up New Radio Home; Extends With Ticketmaster

Penn State football is "moving up the radio dial this season in Philadelphia," as their games will air live on WPHT-AM as part of a "new, multi-year broadcast deal with Entercom that also includes live coverage of Penn State men's basketball," according to Rob Tornoe of the PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER. Play-by-play announcer Steve Jones is "returning to the booth for his 20th season calling Penn State football," and he will be "joined on the broadcast by analyst Jack Ham." In addition to the live games, Entercom will also "air weekly Penn State football and men's basketball coaches shows on Radio.com, along with a daily show called 'Inside Penn State Athletics.'" PSU football games last season aired on WNTP-AM (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 8/7).

IN SAFE HANDS: As part of a new long-term extension with Ticketmaster, every Penn State football student ticket this season will be protected with SafeTix. The technology uses a new type of bar code which refreshes periodically to better prevent theft or fraud. Penn State will become the first college program to use SafeTix this football season as the two sides renew a longtime pact, which dates back to '01. Ticketmaster Senior VP & GM/College Athletics Tim Martin said that the new arrangement will allow only student-to-student ticket transfers -- meaning only students should have access to those sections. Meanwhile, Penn State already had been working with Ticketmaster to replace paper tickets with digital passes across its venues, meaning print-at-home paper tickets are out at Beaver Stadium this season (Michael Smith, SBJ College).
