Clermont, Fla., Develops Plans For A 243-Acre Olympic Community

The city of Clermont, Fla., has developed a plan for a 243-acre "sports-themed community dubbed Olympus," which will serve as a "practice spot for Olympic athletes," according to Lisa Maria Garza of the ORLANDO SENTINEL. Plans for the newly-approved project include "multi-sport training and competition venues; wellness, health and fitness facilities; a village of hotels, restaurants and shops; and a residential area of townhomes and apartment buildings." Plans are to build Olympus about 30 miles west of downtown Orlando, and include "annexing the property into the city limits, paving the way for a completion" around '25. No residents "spoke out in opposition to the project." Olympus Sports & Entertainment co-Founder & CEO Mike Carroll said that the plan for the project "calls for four development zones that also will appeal to fans, visitors and residents." Olympus will also "include nine state-of-the-art 'broadcast-ready' venues and competition centers that will cater to a mix of traditional, nontraditional and emerging sports." The next phase of Olympus is the "architectural design and site work of the project, which is expected to break ground" by '20 (ORLANDO SENTINEL, 5/17).
