UCF's Danny White Talks Football Scheduling, Stadium Expansion

UCF is likely to look at expanding the 45,000-seat Spectrum Stadium in the near futureGETTY IMAGES

UCF AD Danny White recently met with the media and discussed several issues facing the athletic department, including "scheduling, stadium expansion and the new American Athletic Conference media rights deal," according to Matt Murschel of the ORLANDO SENTINEL. White said that the department "continues to work to add football opponents to its future schedules," and UCF "would be happy to play any nonconference Power 6 in a home-and-home." He said, “We make a lot of calls but we don’t get a lot of return calls.” White expects to "sell out season tickets for football this year with the department looking into a waiting list for tickets." The average attendance for eight home football games this past season was 44,019, and with attendance "on the rise, White believes now is the time to begin discussions about expanding" the 45,000-seat Spectrum Stadium. He said, "It’s inevitable that we’re going to have to expand." White said that the AAC's new media rights deal is a "key piece of the puzzle as UCF pushes to grow." White: “We need to really grow our budget. ... We’ve grown our budget about 20% over the last couple of years and I think we need to grow it again by another 20 or 30% of the next couple of years" (ORLANDO SENTINEL, 5/11).
