Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s Topps Now Card Breaks Single-Day Record

TOPPS

Topps revealed that Blue Jays 3B Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s "first rookie card," which was made available after his MLB debut Friday, has "broken a record for any card released through the company's Topps Now program by selling 19,396 copies within the one day of sales," according to Matt Kelly of MLB.com. That mark "broke the previous one-day record" of 17,323, which was set by Angels P/DH Shohei Ohtani last season. Topps Now trading cards "capture memorable MLB moments and are available for just 24 hours" on Topps.com (MLB.com, 4/29).

FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH: The Blue Jays head to the road for series against the Angels and Rangers after bringing Guerrero up from the minors for last weekend's home series, and in Toronto, Rob Longley notes the "initial hype surrounding Guerrero may mellow a little now that the team is on the road ... but don’t underestimate the energy he brought to his teammates, young and old." Guerrero's "smile and the verve for the game that you’ve heard about is real and it’s infectious" (TORONTO SUN, 4/30). MLB.com's Gregor Chisholm noted Toronto had been "waiting more than a year for this moment, but the rest of the baseball world had its eyes glued to the Blue Jays this weekend as well" (MLB.com, 4/29).
