Eli Manning Cancels Weekly Interviews With WFAN's Francesa

The Giants said Manning canceled his weekly appearance because he desired a breakGETTY IMAGES

Giants QB Eli Manning is "ditching his long-standing weekly interviews on WFAN this season," according to Tom Rock of NEWSDAY. While the team told its flagship station earlier this month that Manning will "not be appearing in the weekly segment," WFAN host Mike Francesa -- on whose show Manning typically appears -- "framed it as a result of the team’s selection of Daniel Jones with the sixth overall pick Thursday night." Francesa said, “You think Eli Manning is happy that they drafted a quarterback sixth who now is in play?” Francesa added, "Eli has already canceled his show for this year because he doesn’t like the thought of being on that show weekly if he isn’t the starting quarterback." Though the two decisions are "not linked, there could be some truth to Francesa’s analysis" (NEWSDAY, 4/27). Francesa said that the Giants "asked WFAN to clarify that Manning canceled his weekly in-season appearance because he desired 'a break,' not because he fears being benched." In Newark, James Kratch noted Francesa "laughed at the request after relaying it." He said, “That’s comical." Francesa "delivered the news" to open his show Friday as he "continued to bash" the Giants and Senior VP & GM Dave Gettleman for the decision to take Jones with Manning still on the roster (NJ.com, 4/26).
